James Profitt
Governor
I was born in Middlesbrough in the UK in 1984. I graduated with a degree in Physics and Astrophysics from Leeds University in 2005, and I came to Canada in 2010.
I met my now wife Caroline in 2011, we were married a year later, and then two years after that we had our first child, Eleanor. Thomas and Katherine followed after that at two year intervals, and now our house is full of the kids’ stuff.
I started working for BC Hydro back in 2013 doing data analytics with the SMI project. I am still with Hydro, I really like the fact that the analysis work my team and I work on makes a difference in the electrification efforts in the province.
In terms of Kinsmen, I joined the Langley Kinsmen in 2013 – I had only been there for about six months, and I was voted in as Secretary. Funny how that happens, eh? Since then, we have been working on moving from just a cheque writing club to actually getting out and doing projects. Just this year, we did our biggest project since I became a member: Movie In The Park; and whilst it wasn’t the roaring financial success we had hoped, it has given us a much needed boost in the community. We are hoping to do it again next year; this time with sponsors. We’re also eyeing a Tree Chipping project in January, and a highway sign. Lots of exciting things happening!
In parallel to that, I was DG for the Lower Mainland for 3 years, and I was voted in as Vice Governor at Kinvention earlier this year.
One of the things I’ve really wanted to get going on since becoming DG is to build our profile to the wider public.
It has long been said that we are Canada’s Best Kept Secret. I don’t want us to be a secret. I want all of Canada to know who we are. Will you help me achieve that goal?
