Darcy Millar

Deputy Governor - Vancouver Island Zone

Hi, my name is Darcy Millar. I joined the Campbell River Kinsmen Club in February 2016. The next Kin year I got talked into being the Membership Director and apparently, I was good at it because then that was my job every year until 3 years ago when I became the President of our Club and now, I’ve been President every year since. Here we are 8 years later and I’m the Deputy Governor for the Island

Zone.

When I joined, I was very shy and couldn’t imagine speaking in front of a group of people. Kinsmen really has given me a lot of personal growth. It started slowly for me as the membership director talking for a few quick minutes at every meeting, then as president I obviously have to talk a lot more at meetings. This is where I really grew, and it gave me the confidence to go to the next level which is Deputy Governor.

This role has helped me to learn more about Kin Canada and how things run as well as given me the opportunity to meet even more of my fellow Kin. As Deputy Governor I have seen a few things that a lot of clubs are struggling with, and I want to help all of you and make everyone’s jobs in Kin easier. Some of you have heard me talk about Tech Soup. It’s a way that non-profit organizations can get free software to help them run more efficiently. One of my goals as Vice Governor is to get all of our clubs set up with Tech Soup so that we can all take advantage of the many programs that it offers. All clubs can get the entire Microsoft Office package for free and start using standardized club emails, shared online calendars, and

more. I have also already started looking into accounting programs to make all of our treasurers’ jobs easier.

I’m so glad that I made the decision to join Kinsmen, not only for the personal growth that it has given me but also for all the friends that I have made through it and of course the greatest reward is knowing what I have done with this organization to help make my community a better place. We have raised lots of money and helped lots of people and it’s a great feeling to be able to help those that need it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope that I can count on your vote for Vice Governor at District Kinvention in Kelowna
